If there's water and sunlight, you can garden pretty much anywhere! Grow vegetables on your balcony, herbs in the kitchen, and daisies on your windowsill. Set up a garden wherever your heart desires! Even in the middle of the city...

Some tips to start

  1. Urban gardening is a great way to grow your own food, even if your space is limited to a small balcony. One of the best ways to add an urban garden is with large planters or raised bed.

  2. Start seeds 6-8 weeks before your last frost date indoors for best results. March is the perfect time to get those sunflowers, basil, mint and nasturtium seeds started indoors ready for an early spring planting! Seed bombs - also known as seed balls are another great idea to start. Just add water and sunlight and they burst into life!

  3. Remember that drainage system or at least some holes in container are essential. Without proper drainage, soil can become waterlogged and plants sooner or later will die. Green Atelier planters are constructed with water reservoir and water outflow system in place to protect your plants from drying out or being over watered.

  4. Potting your plants right takes a few simple steps. Put some clay pebbles or gravel in the bottom of your planter to help with drainage. Fill the planter with soil. Go for organic soil to make sure it’s not loaded with chemicals especially if you are planning on growing vegetables. Leave 3 cm at the top for watering. Tamp the soil after the plants are in place and water gently.

Gardening is a great way to relieve stress so have fun and get in touch with nature!

The urban garden showed here offers deep planter boxes that are large enough to grow tomatoes, peppers, or even larger crops such as blueberries.
